Semba works in the Audit assurance department in Grant Thornton, a service line which provides accounting and statutory financial statements to both audit client and non-audit clients. Semba worked with the firm from 2003 to 2012 and re-joined the firm in 2013.
After working in the Audit team for 10 years, in 2012 Semba was appointed Group Accountant of Global Holdings Botswana in the Fast Moving Commodity Goods (FMCG) sector, a subsidiary of Imperial Logistics, listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. He was responsible for preparing all group reporting packs for monthly and quarterly analysis, ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other financial reporting deliverables, ensuring all inventory and balance sheet accounts fully reconciled, and control weaknesses properly identified and resolved.
In 2013 Semba returned to Grant Thornton where he now performs technical reviews on published accounts on behalf of the firm to ensure compliance with IFRS and other legal requirements. He is responsible for training within the firm in the area of financial statement preparation in Caseware software, and provides guidance IFRS. He coordinates compliance assignments covering accounting, audit and tax services. Semba is responsible for the financial reporting division which prepares financial statement. Semba handles review of intercompany transactions, preparation of statutory financial statements for large and small entities in both IFRS and IFRS for Small to Medium Enterprises (SME). He is experienced in financial statement audit under IFRS, managing teams and clients in the delivery of complex consolidations of financial statements, and financial statement reviews to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
Semba has been involved in a number of audits in various industries such as construction, retail and FMCG, services, banking, and manufacturing. Recently, he has been involved in impact assessment of IFRS 9 and 15 implementation related projects in Botswana.
Professional qualifications and memberships
Semba is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a fellow member with Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA). He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from the University of Botswana.
Semba is involved in various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities of Grant Thornton in Botswana, the latest being Tshwaragano Primary School adopted in line with the “Adopt a school” program.
