Tendai joined Grant Thornton in 2020 as an Assistant Manager in the Advisory division, and currently serves as a Manager. He has over 12 years of experience in the financial services sector

Experience

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Tendai spent 12 years working in the financial services sector covering transaction advisory services, capital markets and banking.

He started his career in Zimbabwe with the Interfin Group, where he worked in international banking and corporate banking before joining the group’s transactional advisory arm, Interfin Capital Africa, as a Corporate Finance Analyst. Tendai later moved to Chengetedzai Depository Company Limited, the Central Securities Depository (CSD) for the Zimbabwean capital market, where he rose to the position of Operations Manager.

Tendai is responsible for providing Transactional Advisory Services to clients, covering mergers and acquisitions, business valuations, business recovery and reorganisations, among others.

Sector experience

Tendai has been involved in providing financial and commercial due diligence, financial modelling, equity valuation, M & A advisory (sell & buy side), fair and reasonable opinions, capital raising and preparation of transaction related documents to clients from a wide range of industries.

Professional qualifications and memberships

Tendai holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree in Banking. He has completed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification. He is a CFA Charterholder, and a member of the CFA Institute, and CFA Society of South Africa. He is also an Associate member of the Institute of Bankers of Zimbabwe (AIBZ).

Technological proficiency

Tendai has extensive experience operating various software to execute transaction advisory and business risk assignments, such as Deal Suite (for posting and monitoring transactions) and Microsoft Excel (to build financial models). Furthermore, he is proficient in using Microsoft Office tools to bring quality to different assignments.

Community involvement

Tendai participates in Grant Thornton’s CSR initiatives such as recently supporting Government’s Digital Transformation Strategy within the education sector by sponsoring a state-of-the art imported tech panel – a first for public schools in Botswana. Over the years, Grant Thornton has supported various local communities such as Learn to Play Bontleng community (2021), SSVP Christ the King Cathedral in Gaborone-west (2021/20), COVID-19 National Relief Fund (2020), Tswaragano Primary School in Old Naledi (2022/19/18/17).

Presentations and publications

As part of his BCom dissertation, Tendai did a research project on Mortgage-Backed-Securities as a solution to the Zimbabwean housing challenges. He has presented at the Imara Capital Zimbabwe Investment Conference and various colleges in Zimbabwe to educate students on the capital market.
