Role Overview
The Associate will work as part of the Business Process Solutions (BPS) team to effectively and efficiently execute assigned engagements. The role involves supervising Assistants, supporting Senior Executives and Managers, delivering high-quality client services, and actively participating in team and firm initiatives while ensuring compliance with Grant Thornton policies and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage end-to-end internal audit and Business Risk Services engagements, including risk assessment, planning, execution, and reporting.
- Execute client assignments efficiently and in accordance with agreed scope, timelines, and quality standards.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks and deliverables.
- Accompany Managers and Senior Executives to client meetings and actively participate in discussions.
- Manage specific client portfolios as assigned, including accounting system updates and periodic management reporting.
- Prepare financial schedules and compile financial statements using Caseware, Xero, or other approved systems.
- Prepare and maintain working papers, including fixed asset registers, VAT reconciliations, and supporting schedules, under Manager guidance.
- Generate tax payable computations using approved templates and submit to Manager for review and approval.
- Complete tax return forms and forward them to the Tax Team for verification and compliance checks.
- Assist with payroll processing and payroll administration for clients.
- Prepare assignment budgets under the guidance of the Manager and follow up on engagement letters.
- Support Senior Executives and Managers with data analysis and interpretation of client and internally generated information.
- Liaise with Managers in preparing client proposals and following up on submissions.
- Provide regular updates to Managers on assignment progress, risks, and deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with Grant Thornton’s internal procedures, including quality control and risk management requirements, on all assignments.
- Properly document work performed in line with firm and service line standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and proficiency in all accounting and business software used within the BPS service line.
- Supervise and provide guidance to Assistants on assigned engagements.
- Chair team meetings on a rotational basis.
- Participate actively in team activities, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Report to the Manager on an ongoing basis regarding assignment progress and responsibilities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by Senior Executives or Managers from time to time.
Experience and skills required:
- AAT, Degree in Accounting or any finance qualification.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting software such as CaseWare, Pastel, Xero, and Microsoft Office products.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- 5–7 years’ relevant work experience in accounting or related roles.
- Experience working in a mid-sized accounting practice firm.
