Assistant Manager
Maitumelo Tlhase joined Grant Thornton in 2015 as a Trainee in the Assurance team and worked through the ranks, and was promoted to Assistant Manager in 2026. She has over 10 years of experience.
Experience
Maitumelo joined the firm as a trainee and was actively involved in several external audit engagements whilst working on completing her studies. In her current role, she assists in planning audit engagements, supervision of juniors and monitoring of their workflow. She also assists in the completion of audit engagements and preparation of client’s deliverables.
Sector experience
Maitumelo has been involved in external audits assignments for a diverse clientele, including large manufacturing, construction, trading, non-profitable organisations and service industry clients.
Professional qualifications and memberships
Maitumelo has completed the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification and is currently pursuing the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) qualification.
Technological proficiency
Maitumelo has experience operating various software to execute audit methodology, such as IDEA (data analysis), LEAP (Grant Thornton patented tool for identification of financial statement risks and linkage to the processes and internal controls established to address those risks) and TeamMate (audit workflow). Furthermore, she is also proficient in using Microsoft Office applications to ensure quality of work.
Community involvement
Maitumelo participates in Grant Thornton’s CSR initiatives such as recently supporting Government’s Digital Transformation Strategy within the education sector by sponsoring a state-of-the art imported tech panel – a first for public schools in Botswana. Over the years, Grant Thornton has supported various local communities paying special attention to the upliftment of education in Botswana.
Presentations and publications
Maitumelo has been a member of Grant Thornton’s corporate Toastmasters club, which has facilitated development of communication and leadership skills. She served as the Vice President Education of the club in 2020/21.
