Shathani Samu

Shathani Samu joined Grant Thornton in 2022. He is an Assistant Manager in the Assurance team and has over 9 years of work experience.

Experience

Shathani started his career in 2017 as an Audit Trainee at Tariq & Cassim audit firm where he acquired base knowledge in statutory audit. He later joined Ernst & Young as an auditor where he performed general audit related work, and then the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in 2018 as a payroll accountant where he reconciled general accounts. He became a qualified ACCA member in 2019 and joined Grant Thornton in 2022 as an Executive in the assurance team  where he performs audit related work, supervises audit assistants on several external audit engagements and is also involved in imparting on-the-job training to them, and was later promoted to Assistant Manager in 2026.

Sector experience

Shathani has been involved in statutory audits for diverse clientele in various sectors notably commercial, tourism, and mining.

Professional qualifications and memberships

Shathani has completed Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification. He is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Shathani is an Associate Certified Professional Accountant member (ACPA) of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).

Technological proficiency

Shathani has experience in operating various software to execute audit methodology, such as IDEA (data analysis), LEAP (Grant Thornton patented tool for identification of financial statement risks and linkage to the processes and internal controls established to address those risks) and TeamMate (audit workflow). Furthermore, he is also proficient in using Microsoft Office applications to ensure quality of work.

Community involvement

Shathani participates in Grant Thornton’s CSR initiatives such as recently supporting Government’s Digital Transformation Strategy within the education sector by sponsoring a state-of-the art imported tech panel – a first for public schools in Botswana. Over the years, Grant Thornton has supported various local communities paying special attention to the upliftment of education in Botswana.
