Motswagosele is a Senior Manager in the Taxation division at Grant Thornton, he joined the firm in 2022. He has 19 years’ experience in executing tax strategies across various organisations to achieve business objectives.
Experience
Motswagosele worked as a tax practitioner from 2011 to 2016 during which time he reviewed financial statements for tax accounting purposes, ensuring accurate and timeous tax compliance of Income Tax and VAT returns, advising on any tax exposure and guiding on legal mitigation procedures as provided by the tax legislation.
Motswagosele’s key areas of focus include review of the tax laws for advisory purposes as well as for tax policy formulation, negotiations of Tax treaties, provision of international tax compliance services to organisations under the OEDC such as Base Erosion and Profit Shifting Inclusive Framework and the Global Forum for Transparency and Exchange for Information for Tax purposes. He has assessed Development Approval Order tax incentives applications and made recommendations to the Minister of Finance. He also provided secretarial services to the Taxation Review Committee as well as to the Board of Adjudicators.
His other key responsibilities include provision of advisory services, tax consultancy services, tax due diligence and tax health checks, ensuring that legal tax planning is maximised to achieve efficient operational costs and maintenance of transfer pricing local files.
Professional qualifications and memberships
Motswagosele holds a Master of International Taxation from the University of Sydney and Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Botswana. He has also completed an Advanced Certificate in Taxation offered by Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS, previously Department of Income Tax) and holds a certificate in Transfer Pricing Tax from Duke University.
Technological proficiency
Motswagosele has extensive experience operating the BURS online platform for assorted tax compliance and filing purposes, and is proficient in using Microsoft Office applications, notably Microsoft Excel for Tax computations.
Community involvement
Motswagosele participates in Grant Thornton’s CSR initiatives such as recently supporting Government’s Digital Transformation Strategy within the education sector by sponsoring a state-of-the art imported tech panel – a first for public schools in Botswana. Over the years, Grant Thornton has supported various local communities such as Learn to Play Bontleng community (2021), SSVP Christ the King Cathedral in Gaborone-west (2021/20), COVID-19 National Relief Fund (2020), Tswaragano Primary School in Old Naledi (2022/19/18/17).
In his personal capacity Motswagosele is involved in the provision of Pastoral services to the community to uplift their hopes and faith.
